A Trip to Fashion Incubator of San Francisco

The Incubator of San Francisco provides work space for designers who live in San Francisco to create Fall and Spring collections, as well as enhance their brand and knowledge of the fashion business. While visiting the Incubator, I met 5 really creative designers each touching on a different area of fashion. The designer I like the most and felt could really fill a void in the fashion industry was Anna Min.

Anna Min’s collection is for the petite woman. Though I’m not petite, 2 of my sisters and my best friend are and I feel like this collection would suit them perfectly. I, myself being on the tall side would have problems finding pants, shirts and jackets at a length long enough for me and never thought about the other end of it. Anna explained how she learned how to hem her pants when she was younger to fit her smaller frame. She then started to make clothing for herself since she was limited in what she could purchase in stores. From that evolved the idea of her creating a brand for people with petite frames like herself.

Anna’s collection includes pants, shirts, dresses and jackets with a relaxed fit. The colors for her collection are oranges and pinks with blues and greys. Anna does her own modeling because she said it’s hard to find petite models. Her target customer is a woman age 25-40. I love that her collection is versatile and you can wear the pieces to work then after work for a drink at happy hour.

One piece that I really liked was this shirt with the paisley print. It buttons down the front and has a tie at the collar. I really like this piece because it’s draped so that the paisley print is mostly to one side. Not only did I like it visually, I like how Anna spoke about the piece. She said usually if she were to try on a shirt the arm holes would hang too low and it wouldn’t end at her hip, it would be much longer. She created something that does the opposite for her and many other petite women. The pieces are also very classic in style and fashionable. Because of this I feel that she fills a void in the fashion industry and that she will be very successful with this line she has created.
